The story

Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics is a 2024 fighting game compilation developed and published by Capcom. It includes Marvel Super Heroes (1995), Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes (1998), and Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (2000), marking the first time these titles became available on new platforms since the seventh generation of video game consoles, as well as the first faithful console port of the beat 'em up title The Punisher (1993) and the first new console versions for X-Men: Children of the Atom (1994), X-Men vs. Street Fighter (1996), and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter (1997) since their initial console releases.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated arcade sprites snap across the screen in crisp 2D animation, with splashy hit sparks, oversized super-move flashes and comic-panel backdrops that shift between city rooftops, neon-lit streets and sci-fi stages. The sound is loud and bouncy: chunky punches and projectile whooshes, announcer voice clips, and jaunty arcade rock and synth themes that loop through quick rounds. Menus carry a clean, nostalgic arcade-cabinet feel, with online lobbies, training options and rollback-friendly play tuned for small-screen sessions on a Steam Deck or couch. The vibe is high-energy and cheeky, a nostalgic arcade night with friends, a tag-team bout after work, or a rainy evening of button-mashing comebacks. Pacing is fast and bursty, with short matches that reward quick reactions and swaggering combos over long stretches of calm. Intensity is cartoonish: punches and explosions are frequent but bloodless, with no gore and no sexual content, and the few horror-tinged characters and stages stay campy rather than frightening. It suits fans of classic 2D fighters and superhero crossovers who want playful competition, shared-screen chaos, and a bit of retro bravado.
