The story

An anthology series written and directed by the most famous names in horror.

What it’s like

Anthology episodes that each run about an hour, with a different director's hand on every one, so the look shifts from story to story: grimy, sweat-slick practical effects in one, clean suburban daylight and deliberate stillness in the next. Expect candlelit basements, rain-darkened streets, dim interiors lit by a single lamp, and the occasional blast of saturated colour when something supernatural breaks through. Scores lean on tense strings, low drones and sudden silences, and the sound design often does as much work as the image. The vibe is pulpy, slightly grubby and mischievous, with revenge and forbidden power as recurring currents, and the mood can swing from grim dread to dark-comic relish within the same season. Pacing is patient to start and then abruptly violent, with arcs that tend to follow ordinary people pushed toward a terrible choice. The intensity is high: graphic gore, bodily horror, brutal violence and some sexual content, with plenty of cruelty that lands hard rather than lingering as atmosphere. It suits late-night viewing with the lights off, for fans of practical gore and old-school creepshow storytelling who want their horror unpolished and unafraid.
