The story

For Mona Kawai, winning hearts and turning heads comes naturally. Everything changes when Medaka Kuroiwa, a new transfer student, arrives. He won’t even give Mona a second look, and it turns her life upside down! Mona tries everything she can to win Medaka over, even going to the extreme at times. Tune in to a new rom-com about a queen bee and an unfazed boy among the school’s halls.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated anime colors fill the school corridors: sunlit windows, crisp uniforms, and clean cel-shaded classrooms, with quick cuts and exaggerated facial reactions doing much of the comic work. The mood is light and fizzy, a cheerful sit-back comedy with bouncy incidental music and punchy sound effects that land the jokes. Pacing is brisk, built around escalating schemes and running gags, with slice-of-life downtime between them. Emotionally it stays breezy: a self-assured queen bee who is used to being adored is thrown off by a classmate who simply doesn't react, and her arc is a slow, comical loss of footing and a gradual softening. Intensity is low on violence and gore, with no real danger or cruelty. The romance is flirtatious and suggestive, with ecchi-style fanservice, teasing camera angles, and accidental-contact gags, but nothing explicit. It suits a lazy afternoon, background viewing while doing chores, or a light late-night watch. It's for people who want a bubbly, low-stakes romcom with cheeky humor and a playful, charming heroine.
