The story
An exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean of a daring research team spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated underwater photography shifts into murky blue-black gloom, with the Mariana Trench rendered as a cold, shadowed void lit mainly by submersible floodlights and the sickly glow of bioluminescent creatures. The camera leans into big, kinetic set pieces: wide sweeping shots of the deep-sea research base, tight handheld framing in cramped submersible cabins, and loud, bruising sequences of giant sharks breaching through steel and water. The score is bombastic orchestral action music punctuated by sudden silences in the deep, and the sound design makes the water feel heavy and immense. Vibe: a loud, glossy popcorn creature feature with a dash of eco-thriller grit. It suits a Friday night with friends, a long-haul flight, or a lighter-hearted monster-movie rewatch. Pacing is brisk and the tone is playful even at its most dangerous, with a lot of wisecracking between an ex-diver hero and a rival crew. Intensity is high: frequent action violence, shark attacks with bloody injuries and deaths, and jump-scare peril, but little gore that lingers. Not gentle, but not grim. For viewers who want big spectacle, rough-and-tumble heroes, and monsters that get the scene's full attention.
