The story

Micro Machines V3 takes the immensely popular miniature-scale racing series to a new level by adding weapons and power-ups to the fray. Now you can grab turbo charges for bursts of speed or blast away opponents with grenades and force-fields. For the first time on a portable system you can still drive all of your favorite Micro Machines vehicles on all the classic tracks such as the pool tale and sand-box, but now you can do it with an attitude! Features 48 courses - breakfast table, school desk, science lab, beach, restaurant, garden, pool table, etc. Power-ups to blitz the opposition include: hammer, mines, force-field, etc. Collect, test and gamble special prize cars for up to 32 vehicles -- including monster trucks, transmutable cars, futuristic cars which are all faster than before.

What it’s like

Bright, toy-like miniature worlds rendered in crisp 1997 polygon-and-sprite art: breakfast tables scattered with cereal, school desks, science labs, and pool tables seen from a high overhead angle, all packed with saturated primary colours and cartoon glints. The soundtrack is bouncy and chiptune-leaning, punctuated by squeaky engine chirps, thunks, and the comedic bleat of a hammer or grenade landing. Games run smooth and quick on consoles, with a sudden-death pace where a single wrong turn at a dining-table edge can end a lap in a heartbeat. The mood is cheerful and mischievous, a playful sugar rush rather than a tense grind, and the feel of a Saturday-morning cartoon or a promo tape left on loop. Violence is purely slapstick: cars are blasted, flipped, and sent spinning off the table with no blood, gore, or lasting threat. Stakes are low and the laughs come fast, making it a good fit for kids, for anyone wanting a gentle, goofy multiplayer scrap with friends, or for a nostalgic couch session with a controller in hand.
