The story

In the sequel to Turma da Mônica: Laços, we follow Mônica, Jimmy Five, Maggy and Smudge dealing with the consequences of a mistake made at school. At the same time, they face transformations from childhood to adolescence and are about to discover the value of friendship.

What it’s like

Bright, cartoonish colour and clean drawn outlines carry over from the comic-strip source, with the easy, kid-friendly look of a Saturday-morning animation, and the mood is light and warm with a streak of schoolyard worry running through it. It suits a family movie night, a lazy afternoon, or a gentle watch with children who are starting to notice that friendships can wobble. The pacing is brisk and episodic, moving between classroom scenes, playground arguments and quiet talks, and the emotional register stays open and sincere without becoming heavy. The main arc follows a group of young friends learning to take responsibility for a mistake and to hold on to one another as they start to change. Intensity is low: there is conflict and tension among the characters, but no real violence, gore, or frightening material. It is made for families and for anyone who wants a comforting, good-hearted coming-of-age story with a sense of humour.
