The story

Bill Marks is a Federal Air Marshall for whom every day is the same until this one. On this plane ride, he starts receiving text messages from someone claiming to be on the flight and threatening to kill passengers. In a race against the clock, he must identify and stop the killer to save everyone on board.

What it’s like

Cramped airliner interiors under cold cabin fluorescents and the blue-grey wash of night over the Atlantic, with tight handheld-leaning framing that keeps Liam Neeson's face close and the aisles claustrophobic. Jaume Collet-Serra shoots much of it in confined two-shots and over-the-shoulder views, the palette muted in greys, navy and sickly beige, the sound design built on engine hum, chiming notification pings and a tense, pulsing synth score that tightens each time a message lands. The mood is anxious and paranoid, with a steady dread that builds in bursts rather than gore; the violence is sudden and brief, with a few shootings and a fight or two that land hard but are not graphic. Pacing is relentless, almost real-time, with the tension ratcheting through text exchanges and cross-cabin glances, and the emotional core is a lonely, grieving man who has to decide whom he can trust. It suits a late-night watch alone or a long-haul flight of your own, and it's for viewers who want a taut, fast thriller with a whodunit undercurrent and no slow-burn patience required.
