The story

A young Victoria "Vic" McQueen discovers she has the power to unlock portals that help her find lost objects. As she delves further into this hidden universe, she encounters many other "inscape travelers" - some benevolent, and some who have been corrupted by their power. When Vic encounters Charlie Manx, an immortal who stays that way by feeding off of the souls of children, she makes a sworn enemy of Manx.

What it’s like

Saturated, glossy color with a gothic edge: rain-slick roads, autumn foliage, tinted interiors, and the menace of a black luxury car gliding through small-town New England. Vic's portal sequences bloom in hazy, dreamlike bursts of light, a covered bridge or a bicycle ride tipping into a passage to somewhere stranger, scored with ominous synth and eerie, pitched-down melodies that swell during chases. The camera favors sweeping moves and tight, uneasy close-ups over long static takes, so the pace feels restless and tense, with episodes that build dread week by week. The mood is brooding and unsettling, with flashes of pulp fun and a dark-fantasy vibe best suited to late-night viewing. Intensity is moderate to high: child peril, creepy-kid horror, supernatural menace, some bloody violence and occasional gore, with dread far more frequent than shocks. It suits viewers who want spooky, character-driven horror with a determined young lead and a sinister villain, not gentle comfort viewing. Best for fans of atmospheric supernatural mysteries with an emotional core about a girl learning to be brave.
