The story

Odallus is a NES inspired exploration game with lots of action. It brings elements of classics such as Ghosts’n Goblins, Demon’s Crest and Castlevania while subverting some modern twists.

What it’s like

Chunky NES-style pixel art with dark, saturated palettes: torchlit stone halls, murky forests, crimson and bruised-purple skies, and sprites that bob and flicker with an old-cartridge crispness. The soundtrack leans on chiptune-flavoured medieval themes, bright and driving in combat and eerie in the quieter corridors, while the sound effects have the satisfying thud and crackle of 8-bit hits. Movement feels deliberate and weighty, with a tight, responsive jump that rewards precise timing and a steady loop of exploring, backtracking and unlocking new routes through a sprawling, interconnected castle. Its vibe is nostalgic and gritty, a dark-fantasy throwback with a stubborn, hard-edged determination. It suits a late evening at the controller, a weekend session that stretches longer than planned, or a nostalgic run for anyone who grew up on Castlevania. Violence is cartoonish and frequent, with enemies exploding into pixel puffs and moderate gore, but nothing graphic or sexual. Gentle it is not: it's a challenging, combat-heavy adventure for players who enjoy punishing platforming and the slow pleasure of mapping a labyrinth.
