The story

A group of families on a tropical holiday discover that the secluded beach where they are staying is somehow causing them to age rapidly – reducing their entire lives into a single day.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated sunlight on a closed tropical cove, with a wide, almost postcard-clean frame that slowly turns claustrophobic as the sand, the rocks and the turquoise water keep closing in around the characters. Shyamalan's camera lingers in long, deliberate takes and gentle drift-like tracking moves, favouring sun-bleached whites and warm skin tones over any cool palette. The score is sparse and percussive, with pulses of low strings that rise under the quiet beach sounds of waves, wind and distant chatter. The mood is sun-bleached unease: a holiday that feels pleasant on the surface while a mounting dread builds underneath. Pacing is steady and patient, with a cliffside-style creep toward the big reveals. Emotionally it sits in marriage strain, parental anxiety and the sudden panic of time running out, so the arcs follow a couple and a family learning to face fear and each other. The intensity runs to moderate: a few sudden, unsettling injuries and some blood, with graphic moments that land hard but brief, and no sexual content. It suits a lazy afternoon when you want tension without gore, and it is for viewers who enjoy slow-burn high-concept mysteries.
