The story

During the reign of the Vikings, a man from another world crash-lands on Earth, bringing with him an alien predator. The man must fuse his advanced technology with the weaponry of the vikings to fight the monster.

What it’s like

Cold, grey-green Norwegian landscapes dominate this 2008 science fiction action film, with fjords, misty pine forests and rough timber halls shot in overcast daylight and smoky firelit interiors, the palette leaning toward steel blues, mud browns and the bright sheen of a spacecraft's metal. Camera work is kinetic and handheld in the fights, with fast cuts through forest chases and wide establishing shots of the valley, while the score is a bombastic orchestral and percussive mix that swells during battles. The vibe is brawny, grim and pulpy, a blend of Viking-age myth and creature-feature momentum that suits a loud weekend night or a background action watch. Pacing is brisk and set-piece driven, and the emotional register stays straightforward: a stranded outsider gradually earns the trust of a wary village and takes on a shared threat. Intensity is high: frequent sword and spear violence, bloody wounds, and a creature that kills in visceral, physical ways, though the gore is more action-movie than extreme. It is for viewers who want old-world spectacle and monster combat without much emotional complexity.
