The story
This drama follows Fan Changyu, a butcher’s daughter, and Xie Zheng, a fallen noble seeking revenge. Their fake marriage turns into true love, but war tears them apart. Determined, Fan Changyu wields her butcher’s knife on the battlefield, searching for justice and her husband. Meanwhile, Xie Zheng reclaims his title, fighting to protect his country and love. Reunited in battle, they stand together, defying fate, uncovering the truth, and returning home without forgetting their vows.
What it’s like
Period costume and wartime battlefields frame a romance that grows out of a marriage of convenience, with the emotional weight resting on a steady, earnest bond between two people who begin as strangers. The vibe is sweeping yet intimate, a warm, admiring romance pulled into the upheaval of war, with the romantic scenes offering a gentler counterpoint to the chaos around them. Expect a serialized rhythm of long episodes that alternate between domestic tenderness and large, dramatic set pieces. Combat is part of the story and the battle scenes carry real violence, though the tone leans toward romance and loyalty rather than gore or cruelty. Sexual content is not a central feature. It suits a weekend binge, a comfort rewatch for fans of historical romance, or an evening when you want a clear emotional arc with stakes and a hopeful resolution. It is for viewers who enjoy costume drama, devoted partnerships, and heroines who take up hard, physical roles in a world at war.
