The story

You want real rally racing? Try strapping yourself in for the four play modes of RalliSport Challenge. Twenty-five licensed vehicles participate in Conventional Rally, RallyCross, Hill Climb and Ice Racing. Tracks are taken from the real world, with matching terrains and environments. Particle and weather effects heighten the realism. RalliSport Challenge's unique AI engine delivers drivers with their own individual personalities and driving habits, and effective graphics and animations bring it all to life.

What it’s like

Dusty gravel roads under hard midday sun, then rain-slick forest tracks where spray and mud smear the windscreen, all rendered with the slightly plasticky sheen of early-2000s 3D. Spectator-free, the courses feel lonely and open, with long sightlines over hills and through pine and snow. The sound is a rising engine roar, gear shifts, tyres skittering on loose surface, and the scrape of debris against the bodywork, with few musical interruptions. Races unfold at a steady, grinding tempo, each corner a small test of nerve and timing, and the rival drivers' distinct habits give the sense of a crowded field ahead. Violence is absent; the only danger is a wreck, with crashes shown as tumbling cars and sparks rather than gore. The mood suits a focused solo evening, a rainy weekend session with a controller, or a nostalgic return to the Xbox era. It is aimed at players who want a grounded, sim-leaning rally experience with a strong sense of place and weather, and who enjoy the satisfaction of mastering a difficult line.
