The story
A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying.
What it’s like
Handheld, claustrophobic found-footage framing: a shaky camcorder eye pressed close to faces in a harsh, jittery fluorescent-and-flashlight glare, with the image sometimes burning out to white or dropping into near-total black. The palette is drab and grainy, stairwells and apartment corridors of a Barcelona block lit by bare bulbs and the sickly blue-green wash of night-vision mode, and the sound is mostly raw: shouting, footsteps on concrete, breathing, a camera's whine, with score almost absent until it cuts in sharply. The vibe is frantic, sweaty dread, the feeling of being trapped in a bad night that won't end. Pacing is relentless once the doors lock, rising to chaotic bursts and brief stillnesses. Intensity is high: frequent visceral violence and gore, bloody attacks and grim injuries, plus pervasive fear and some sexual nudity, all delivered mostly through glimpses and sound rather than lingering shots. The emotional register is panicked and bleak, with a reporter's ambition curdling into desperation as the people around her are picked apart. Best for horror fans who want immersive, unsettling tension and don't mind being shaken up and sometimes sickened.
