The story
Roll Away is a 3D platform puzzle video game which places the player in control of a Kula beachball. The main objective of the game is to collect keys which unlock the level exits, as well as coins and jewels along the way. The game makes use of alternative physics, changing the direction of gravity as the ball moves.
What it’s like
Bright primary colours on sun-warmed, wind-swept floating platforms, rendered in the chunky, flat-textured polygons typical of late-1990s PlayStation art, with clean sky-blue backdrops that drift past as the ball rolls. The camera hangs behind and above, so the feel in the hands is of nudging a heavy inflatable across tilting surfaces, the world flipping beneath you whenever gravity swings to a new side. The score is light and bouncy, built from chimes and cheerful melodic loops, with wind and surf murmuring underneath. Vibe: playful, unhurried, puzzle-calm with a small tickle of disorientation. It suits a lazy afternoon, a controller in hand on the sofa, or a quiet evening when you want something clever but kind. Pacing is steady and self-contained: each stage is a compact puzzle, gathering keys and jewels to reach the exit, with no timers pressing on you. Intensity is very low: no blood, no gore, no sexual content, and no real threat beyond tumbling off an edge and starting again. It is for players who want gentle, low-stakes brain teasers in a lighthearted, toy-box world.
