The story

A rumor states that if you take a photo of someone you like with your cellphone and keep it hidden, they'll fall for you. Will Makoto win his love by taking a picture of Kotonoha without anyone knowing?

What it’s like

Bright, glossy cel animation with saturated pastel skies, sunlit school corridors, and tidy classroom compositions that look sweet at first glance, all set to cheerful pop and a light, bouncy score that plays against what unfolds. A high-school love triangle begins with a small, superstitious secret about a phone photo, and the early episodes move with the easy rhythm of teen banter, rain-soaked umbrella walks, and crushes that feel like a rainy-afternoon daydream. The tone is romantic and comic on the surface, then curdles steadily into something jagged and mean, with the sweetness turned against the viewer. Intensity is high and the back half is not gentle: it contains graphic, brutal violence and gore, explicit sexual content, cruelty, and a bleak, nihilistic ending that lands hard. Its emotional register is manipulative by design, and the people at its center are less arcs than escalating messes of jealousy and self-deception. It suits viewers who want to watch a familiar romance-anime formula be deliberately dismantled, and it is best avoided by anyone seeking something soft, low-stakes, or comforting.
