The story
Maddie, a teen stuck in the afterlife investigating her own mysterious disappearance, goes on a crime-solving journey as she adjusts to high school purgatory, but the closer she gets to discovering the truth, the more secrets and lies she uncovers.
What it’s like
Cool, muted teen-drama palette with overcast daylight in school hallways, cold lockers and fluorescent corridors warmed by sunlit lawns and dusk-tinted scenes, and a sense that the afterlife version of a small-town high school looks almost like the real one, slightly drained of color. Camera work stays mostly conventional and close, with handheld-leaning coverage of lunch-table conversations and quiet two-shot moments that let faces carry the feeling, while the supernatural layer arrives through gentle visual oddities rather than spectacle. The score tends toward soft indie-pop and sparse synth textures that rise under reveals, and dialogue-driven scenes breathe between them. Vibe: wistful, curious, quietly uneasy, with moments of warmth and humor in the friendships. Pacing is episodic and mystery-driven, building through clue-hunting and small confrontations toward escalating revelations about trust. The emotional arc follows a grieving teen learning to belong again while confronting the people around her. Intensity is low to moderate: some peril and emotional tension, a few tense confrontations, no graphic violence or gore. Romance and LGBT storylines are handled with sincerity and some physical affection. For viewers who enjoy teen supernatural mysteries with heart, and who want a reflective, character-centered watch rather than horror.
