The story
Seeking to recover his memory, a scissor-wielding, hairdressing, bungling quasi-assassin stumbles into a struggle for power among feuding factions.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated cel-style animation with flat colour fills, bold ink outlines and exaggerated motion: a barber's shop glowing warm and cluttered, then sudden sweeping wuxia set-pieces of ink-wash skies, glowing blades and kinetic, stylised fights. Its vibe is playful and kinetic, a goofy, big-hearted comedy wrapped around martial arts spectacle, with a soundtrack of brassy, percussive Chinese-influenced pop and orchestral swells that lean into the drama. Pacing is brisk and gag-driven, with episodes that snap between slapstick and sudden earnest moments. Violence is frequent and cartoonish: plenty of fighting, blood-spatter stylisation and sword slashes, but played for laughs and spectacle rather than dread or cruelty. The emotional register is warm and comic, with a lovable, bumbling protagonist slowly finding his footing among rival factions and forming loyal bonds with the odd crew around him. It suits a lively weekend binge, a comfort rewatch for anyone who loves donghua, or a fun escape for fans of wuxia-tinged action comedy who don't mind a steady rhythm of fights.
