The story

One gunshot, one death, one moment out of time that irrevocably links eight minds in disparate parts of the world, putting them in each other's lives, each other's secrets, and in terrible danger. Ordinary people suddenly reborn as "Sensates."

What it’s like

Saturated, globe-trotting color with a glossy digital sheen: Mumbai street markets in turmeric yellow, Nairobi and Reykjavik in cold blue, Seoul's neon, Chicago's gray winter and a Mexico City bar washed in warm amber. The camera moves often, drifting between eight cities and sometimes cutting mid-scene from one character's bedroom to another's apartment, so the same sentence or song hums across continents. Sound does much of the work: a pulsing, layered electronic score, a sudden hush when two minds connect, Pablo Ruiz's ballads and club tracks threaded through the nightlife scenes. Vibe is sensual, restless and warm, closer to communal euphoria than dread. Pacing is leisurely and sprawling, with long romantic and domestic interludes between thrillers, and the emotional spine is eight strangers learning to trust, love and protect one another across borders and identities. Intensity runs moderate to high: there are shootouts, fistfights, and a steady undertow of violence and cruelty against queer and trans characters, plus explicit, frequent sex scenes that are tender as often as they are graphic. For viewers who want a big, open-hearted, sexually frank ensemble with a sense of belonging, rather than something gentle.
