The story
Aiko's Choice is a brand-new standalone addon to the beloved stealth tactics game Shadow Tactics. Set in Japan around the Edo period, you take control of kunoichi adept Aiko and her deadly assassin friends to hunt down the ghosts of her past.
What it’s like
Hand-painted Edo-period landscapes in soft, saturated colour: sun-dappled bamboo groves, lantern-lit village rooftops, moonlit castle courtyards where every shadow reads clearly on the screen. The camera hangs high and fixed above the action, so the world feels like a diorama you lean over and rearrange, with patient, deliberate movement. The soundscape is mostly wind, creaking wood, distant drums and the soft thud of footsteps, with tense, percussive strings rising when a guard spots movement. Playing it feels like slowly solving a painting: pausing to plan, timing patrol routes, and moving through a single rooftop route with a held breath. Its vibe is quiet, meticulous tension with a melancholy undertow, best suited to a focused evening alone or a long session with headphones. Violence is stylised and sudden, with swift blade kills and occasional bloodless takedowns rather than gore, though the tension of getting spotted can be sharp. Made for players who enjoy thoughtful puzzle-tactics, careful planning and a gentle hum of suspense.
