The story

An aspiring music journalist lands her dream job and is about to move to San Francisco when her boyfriend of nine years decides to call it quits. To nurse her broken heart, she and her two best friends spend one outrageous last adventure in New York City.

What it’s like

Bright, buoyant New York city light: sunlit brownstone stoops, sodium-orange streetlamps smearing across wet asphalt after a rainstorm, and warm apartment interiors lit by lamps and fairy lights, with the camera close and mobile as it follows three friends through street-level bustle. Music does a lot of the work, a pop-and-hip-hop playlist that pulses through the montage sequences and makes the city feel like a party you're invited to. The vibe is bittersweet and giddy, a breakup story that stays mostly on the side of fun: heartbreak is real but never heavy, and the rhythm is brisk, with clean comic beats, rapid banter, and set pieces that cut quickly from one night to the next. The arc is about a woman learning to stop defining herself by a long relationship and to trust her own ambitions and her friendships. Language is frank and some scenes are sexually suggestive, with brief nudity and drinking throughout, but violence is absent and there is nothing frightening. It suits a girls-night watch, a rainy Saturday on the sofa, or a comfort rewatch when you want laughter and a little ache. It's for people who love female friendship stories, New York backdrops and romcoms with an honest, unpolished edge.
