The story

A Danish family visits a Dutch family they met on a holiday. What was supposed to be an idyllic weekend slowly starts unraveling as the Danes try to stay polite in the face of unpleasantness.

What it’s like

Sun-bleached and slowly sour, shot in long, patient takes of Tuscan hillsides, pale stone farmhouses, and sun-warmed dinner tables, with a restrained, almost documentary eye that lingers a beat too long on awkward silences. The palette runs to dusty ochres and washed greens, with little score beyond sparse ambient drones that thicken as unease builds. Its vibe is quietly dread-filled, a cringe-tense unease that grows from good manners curdling into something harder to watch. It suits a late night alone with the lights low, not a relaxed weekend. The pacing is deliberate, the emotional register cold and humiliating, and the arc follows a polite, conflict-averse couple who keep swallowing discomfort until they can no longer afford to. The intensity is high: sustained psychological dread and manipulation, with a final act of brutal, graphic violence and deeply disturbing content involving a child. Not gentle, and not for anyone wanting comfort. It is for viewers who want slow-burn horror rooted in social discomfort and the cost of not speaking up.
