The story
The USS Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated space-opera spectacle: glossy digital imagery with lens flares, sleek white-and-blue starship interiors, and an alien nebula world of rust-coloured rock and fractured metal under hard sunlight. The camera moves constantly, with quick cuts, swooping aerial shots and hand-held jolts during fights, so the rhythm is brisk and busy rather than contemplative. Sound leans on a pounding orchestral score, whooshing phaser blasts and crisp bridge chatter, and the mood is upbeat camaraderie with a restless, slightly anxious edge when the crew is cut off and stranded. The intensity is moderate: frequent sci-fi action with gunfire, explosions and hand-to-hand combat, some bloodless peril and a sense of threat, but nothing graphic or sexual. Emotionally it stays warm and light, with banter, found-family loyalty and a steady current of hope. It suits a weekend action night, a comfortable popcorn watch, or a sci-fi fan who wants a familiar crew in a fast, bright adventure.
