The story

Stellaris: MegaCorp is the latest full expansion for Paradox Development Studio’s iconic sci-fi grand strategy game, which has players ushering in an era of prosperity and profit on a galactic scale. In this economy-focused expansion, players can become the CEO of a powerful corporate empire to expand operations across the stars.

What it’s like

Clean, cool interface panels over a starfield that drifts slowly in deep blue-black, with ledgers, planet tiles and trade lanes rendered as neat diagrams that glow softly against the dark. The sound is a low, unhurried ambient bed of synth pads and distant hums, punctuated by the quiet chime of a completed contract or a new market opening, so the game feels like sitting in a quiet office at the edge of the galaxy. Pacing is slow and deliberate, measured in long turns where you watch numbers climb and rebalance rather than react to threats, and the tone is calm, businesslike and faintly wry, with corporate jargon and tongue-in-cheek bureaucracy rather than tension. Intensity is very low: conflict exists only as economic rivalry and occasional bureaucratic setbacks, with no gore, no graphic violence and little sense of danger. It suits a rainy evening, background play while doing something else, or a relaxed session with a notebook of plans. It is for players who enjoy spreadsheets-as-storytelling, empire management and the satisfaction of a well-tuned system, and who want strategy without stress.
