The story

Rick Riker is a nerdy teen imbued with superpowers by a radioactive dragonfly. And because every hero needs a nemesis, enter Lou Landers, aka the villainously goofy Hourglass.

What it’s like

Bright, flat studio lighting over sets that look like a suburban high school and a cheap comic-book city, with the palette leaning on primary reds and yellows and a slightly overexposed digital sheen. The camera stays mostly conventional and straightforward, with quick cuts, wide establishing shots of the school, and a lot of frame-filling gags that reward a second glance at the background. The sound is a bouncy, generic orchestral-comedy score that swells on cue and gets interrupted by pratfalls and sound effects. The vibe is silly, loose and self-aware, the kind of thing you put on for an easy laugh on a lazy weeknight or a movie-night group where nobody needs to concentrate. Pacing is brisk and gag-driven, with little time spent on feeling; the emotional register stays light, and the arc follows an awkward, underdog teen learning to own his odd new abilities while a rival keeps escalating. Intensity is low: there are slapstick fights, cartoonish crashes and mild innuendo, with no real gore and no genuinely frightening moments, though the jokes are crude and sometimes juvenile. Best for people who want goofy parody, teen-comedy silliness and a comedy they can half-watch without losing the thread.
