The story

American Revolt is an add-on pack to Syndicate. It requires the original game and includes 3 new weapons, 21 new single player missions, and 10 multiplayer missions.

What it’s like

Grimy, sodium-orange and rain-slick cityscapes rendered in dense, chunky pixel art, with the squat, isometric streets of a near-future metropolis rolling beneath a dark sky threaded with corporate blimps and advertising haze. The soundtrack is a pulsing, synth-heavy electronic score that loops under the crack of gunfire and the thud of mechanical footsteps, and the whole thing feels like a cold, humming machine room that you keep returning to. It suits late nights at a desk, a rainy evening with the lights low, or a stretch of focused tinkering when you want a sense of grim atmosphere without needing to follow a long story. Pacing is deliberate and tense: you plan squad movements on a world map, then drop into brisk, sometimes sudden firefights where a single misstep can end a mission. Violence is frequent and stylised, with stylised gunfire, explosions and bodies dropping in pixel-sized bursts, and a steady undercurrent of menace; the tone is cynical and oppressive rather than gory. It is for players who enjoy tactical strategy, cyberpunk dread and the satisfaction of tweaking a team of cyborg operatives, especially those who remember the original DOS and Amiga era.
