The story

Nikki and her friends Brandon, Chloe, and Zoey are teamed up on an important mission in the tenth book in the #1 New York Times bestselling Dork Diaries series. Nikki has to hide seven ADORKABLE puppies from two parents, one nosy little sister, an entire middle school, and…one mean girl out for revenge, MacKenzie Hollister. If anyone can do it, it’s Nikki…but not without some hilarious challenges along the way!

What it’s like

Chatty, doodle-studded diary pages carry this one: Nikki's first-person entries mix lists, cartoon sketches, bold exclamations and a rush of exclamation-point enthusiasm, so reading it feels like flipping through a friend's scrapbook on a school bus. The look is bright and cluttered rather than moody, all bubbly fonts, hand-lettered asides and scribbled margins, with the emotional temperature set to cheerful mischief. It suits an afternoon on the couch, a long car ride, or a comfort reread when you want something light enough to finish in a sitting. The pacing is brisk and episodic, built on short scenes, quick jokes and small escalating panics as a secret puppy-hiding scheme wobbles, with the friendship between Nikki, Brandon, Chloe and Zoey at its warm core and a rivalry with MacKenzie providing gentle sting. Intensity is very low: mild embarrassment, sibling squabbles and classroom drama, with no violence, no gore, no sexual content and no real fear beyond a brief worry about getting caught. It is for younger middle-grade readers and adults who want a funny, gentle, animal-filled story that feels like sunshine and sticky notes.
