The story
The home version of Tekken 5 came with new character customization options and a beat 'em up mode called Devil Within.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated arena fights under stage lights and floodlit night skies, with the camera swinging low and close behind each fighter and then pulling back for wide, cinematic reveals. The palette runs from hot oranges and electric blues to the glossy sheen of sweat and polished stage floors, and the frame rate is smooth enough that every strike reads cleanly. Sound is punchy and percussive: crunching impacts, crowd roars that swell between rounds, and a driving, guitar-tinged score that rises under the countdown timer. Single rounds are short and sharp, but the Devil Within beat 'em up mode, with its crowded corridors and rapid hack-and-slash rhythm, stretches the pace into longer, looser bursts. Violence is stylised and cartoonish rather than gory: plenty of big hits, staggered and launched bodies, and the occasional dramatic death, with no blood-soaked realism. The overall mood is energetic and competitive, a loud, sweaty arcade rush that suits a Friday night with friends, a long session of solo challenge, or a comfort return to a favourite roster. It is made for players who want tight, flashy combat, a big cast of quirky fighters, and plenty of ways to dress them up.
