The story
The series picks up four years after the events of Terminator 2: Judgment Day with John and Sarah Connor trying to stay under-the-radar from the government, as they plot to destroy the computer network, Skynet, in hopes of preventing Armageddon.
What it’s like
Grimy, low-key sci-fi with a washed-out palette: flat overcast daylight, sodium-lit parking garages, dim motel rooms and drab suburban interiors that feel lived-in rather than styled. The camera is mostly steady and functional, with plenty of tight handheld framing during fights and quiet two-shots at kitchen tables where the tension sits in the pauses. Machinery gleams in cold blue and steel grey, and the robots arrive with a mechanical hum, metal clicks and sudden, percussive bursts of gunfire, backed by a synth-and-percussion score that pulses under the action and drops out for long stretches of near silence. Violence is regular and physical, with gunfights, stabbings and robot brutality that land hard but are rarely gory, and there is steady background dread about the future. The pacing is episodic and procedural, built around hide-and-chase cycles, with emotional weight carried by a fraught, dysfunctional family slowly rebuilding trust under constant threat, Sarah hardened and watchful, John reluctant and restless. It suits a late-night, alone-on-the-couch binge or a comfort rewatch for fans who like paranoid, cold-toned sci-fi with heart at its core. Mature but unshowy: moody, tense, rarely cozy.
