The story

Mr Wickers takes his class on a final trip to Cornwall, which descends into chaos as they encounter a local separatist group.

What it’s like

Bright, flat daylight and wide Cornish coastline give this one a cheerful, slightly scruffy look, with bus interiors, campsites and seaside car parks framed in plain, straight-on shots that favour broad physical comedy over stylish composition. The palette is saturated and sunny, the sort of holiday-brochure colour that keeps undercutting itself as things go wrong. The sound is busy and pop-leaning, with cheeky needle-drops and sitcom-style stings punctuating the mayhem. The vibe is loose, rowdy and silly, the kind of crude, daft comedy that suits a lazy Saturday afternoon, a group watch with friends, or an easy comfort rewatch when you want to laugh without thinking too hard. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with one gag or pratfall after another. Emotionally it stays light: a fond, self-deprecating teacher and his unruly class with a gentle thread of affection under the nonsense, and some teacher-student awkwardness played for laughs. Intensity is moderate: frequent crude jokes, sexual innuendo and profanity, slapstick scuffles and mild menace from the separatists, but no gore and little real cruelty. It is for fans of the TV series and people who like British teen comedy with a sharp, irreverent streak.
