The story

After a group of biologists discovers a huge network of unexplored caves in Romania and, believing it to be an undisturbed eco-system that has produced a new species, they hire the best American team of underwater cave explorers in the world. While exploring deeper into the underwater caves, a rockslide blocks their exit, and they soon discover a larger carnivorous creature has added them to its food chain.

What it’s like

Cramped, murky, and mostly lit by headlamp beams cutting through black water, with the dim blue-green sheen of flooded chambers and the grey-brown grit of wet limestone never far from the frame. The camera stays close and jittery in the tight passages, then pulls back to show the vast cathedral caverns in harsh, flat artificial light that makes every ledge look sharp and cold. The score leans on pounding percussion and rising strings, and the sound design makes dripping water and echoing clicks feel like they're bouncing off the walls. The vibe is claustrophobic and pulpy, with a touch of sweaty B-movie cheese: tense, loud, and forward-moving, best for a Friday night with the lights off. Pacing is brisk and escalating, with the group's uneasy teamwork fraying into panic and personal rivalry as the exits close. Intensity is moderate to high: frequent jump scares, creature attacks with blood and bodies, and peril that lands hard. Violence is physical and visceral but not extended gore. Made for fans of creature features and survival horror who like their dread loud and their caves dark.
