The story

An orphaned teen hits the road with a mysterious robot to find her long-lost brother, teaming up with a smuggler and his wisecracking sidekick.

What it’s like

Saturated, sun-faded 1990s americana colliding with gleaming retro-futuristic machinery: dusty highways under hazy amber skies, neon-lit diners, chunky CRT screens and cassette-deck gadgetry, all rendered in a glossy digital sheen with bright, busy colour. The score leans on nostalgic pop-rock and big orchestral swells, and the action sequences are loud, cluttered and frequently playful. Its vibe is brash, bright and wistful, a road-trip adventure with a wry sense of humour and a melancholy undertow about machines and what they remember. It suits a lively weekend night, a family film with older kids, or a comfort watch when you want energy without anything too grim. The intensity is moderate: frequent robot-on-robot and gunfire action with some peril and sci-fi menace, but no gore and little real cruelty. The pacing is brisk and episodic, and the emotional arc follows a grieving young woman slowly learning to trust a companion who is not quite human, with a crew of misfits warming to one another along the way. Best for viewers who enjoy big, colourful blockbuster spectacle with heart and a light comic edge.
