The story

All the rules are broken as a sect of lawless marauders decides that the annual Purge does not stop at daybreak and instead should never end as they chase a group of immigrants who they want to punish because of their harsh historical past.

What it’s like

Harsh sun and bleached sand dominate The Forever Purge, a film that trades the cramped urban nights of its predecessors for wide Texas desert: scorched brown earth, dusty highways, flat horizons under a white-hot sky, and shadowy border towns lit by flickering porch lamps and the orange glow of burning buildings. Camera work is largely handheld and kinetic in the chase sequences, with tight, sweaty close-ups during standoffs and long, exposed shots of people crossing open ground with nowhere to hide. Gunfire cracks sharply across empty space, and a pulsing, percussive score builds dread between skirmishes. The mood is grim, relentless and bruised, a neo-western survival thriller where the pacing rarely lets up. Violence is frequent and often brutal, with shootings, stabbings, and gory aftermath shown on screen, along with threats, cruelty and terror; there is no sexual content and little respite. It suits viewers who want a tense, uncompromising action-horror night rather than anything gentle, and fans of siege-style thrillers and the franchise's escalating chaos.
