The story

Each week celebrity guests join Irish comedian Graham Norton to discuss what's being going on around the world that week. The guests poke fun and share their opinions on the main news stories. Graham is often joined by a band or artist to play the show out.

What it’s like

Bright studio lighting on a warm, glossy set, with a curving sofa, a looping backdrop of pastel-and-colour graphics, and a live audience whose laughter rolls through every segment. The camera works in lively, well-lit wide shots that cut quickly between the host's armchair and the guests, so the rhythm feels brisk and conversational rather than slow. Sound is all voices, applause, and the occasional roar at a sharp line, with a band or solo artist closing each episode in a bigger, brassier finish. The vibe is sociable, light and gossipy, the kind of easy Friday-night chat you can dip in and out of while cooking, folding laundry, or winding down after a long week. The tone stays playful and irreverent, with guests teasing each other and themselves, and the host keeps everything warm and quick-witted, with the occasional blunt, cheeky aside. Nothing here is violent, frightening or sexual; the only edge is verbal, the sort of mild innuendo and ribbing you'd hear at a dinner party. It suits people who want cheerful, funny company, celebrity banter and a bit of current-affairs chatter without any heavy material.
