The story

An accidental killing leads a man down a dark hole of intrigue and murder. Just as he finds love and freedom, one phone call brings back the nightmare.

What it’s like

Cool, grey, rain-soaked Spanish streets give way to warm interiors lit by lamps and rented-flat fluorescents, with tight, restless handheld framing that stays close to faces and hands. The look is glossy and controlled, the palette shifting from muted greys and blues in the courtroom and night streets to amber in the brief moments of escape. Piano and low, pulsing strings sit under long silences, and the score tightens whenever a phone rings. Its vibe is tense and claustrophobic, a slow-burn thriller with a cold, morally uneasy undertow. It suits a late night alone with the lights off, or a binge across several evenings when you want to be kept guessing. Pacing is deliberate and twisty, with each episode ending on a turn, and the central man's arc moves from a fragile hope for a new life toward a grim, compromised clarity. Intensity is high: a sexual assault is depicted and returns as a plot point, there are fights and violent deaths, and the dread is frequent rather than gory. Not gentle. For viewers who like intricate Spanish crime drama that is dark, serious and admiring of its own cleverness.
