The story
When athletic teen Mari Collingwood opts to hang out with her friend Paige in town rather than spend an evening in with her parents vacationing at the family's remote lake house, it marks the beginning of a night no one is going to forget.
What it’s like
Cold, desaturated daylight over a lake and dark pine forest, then a sudden shift into handheld, grainy night footage that feels close and frantic, with flat fluorescent interiors and a rough, improvised texture throughout. The sound design leans on wind, water and sudden silence, with a pounding, abrasive score that spikes at moments of threat. Vibe: bleak, claustrophobic dread with a mean edge. The pacing is relentless once the night turns, with little breathing room between escalations, and the emotional register is raw grief hardening into vengeance, the arc of a bereaved family pulled into brutal reprisal. Intensity is high: sexual violence, kidnapping, torture and graphic murder, all shown directly and unsparingly, with the dread often more disturbing than any single image. Not suitable for anyone seeking gentleness or light viewing. For viewers who want an unflinching, grim revenge thriller and can tolerate sustained cruelty on screen.
