The story

An epic adventure across the land and skies of Hyrule awaits in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for Nintendo Switch. The adventure is yours to create in a world fueled by your imagination. In this sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you'll decide your own path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link's new abilities to fight back against the malevolent forces that threaten the kingdom?

What it’s like

Warm, painterly sunlight spills across sprawling green valleys, ruined stone and sun-bleached deserts, while the sky above fills with floating islands, cloud layers and the dark, glowing underside of the world. The palette swings between lush greens and golden hour oranges and the cool, eerie blues and violets of the depths below, rendered in a soft cel-shaded style that lets scenes breathe. Sound is mostly open air: birdsong, wind through grass, the creak of a horse's saddle, footsteps on stone, then a single piano or flute line swelling when a ruin reveals itself. Pacing is entirely yours; you wander, climb, glide and cook at your own speed, and the rhythm shifts from unhurried exploration to tense, short bursts of combat against monsters and mechanical foes. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless, with enemies dissolving into light, and there is no sexual content; fear is mild, with a few eerie or unsettling moments in the dark places. It suits a long rainy afternoon, a slow evening with a warm drink, or an open-ended comfort session. Its arc follows a silent hero rebuilding a kingdom through curiosity and craft, so it's for players who want freedom, puzzles, and a gentle sense of discovery.
