The story

Set in the African savannah, the film follows Kion as he assembles the members of the 'Lion Guard'. Throughout the film, the diverse team of young animals will learn how to utilize each of their unique abilities to solve problems and accomplish tasks to maintain balance within the Circle of Life, while also introducing viewers to the vast array of animals that populate the prodigious African landscape.

What it’s like

Warm savannah light does most of the work here: wide, sun-bleached grasslands at golden hour, rust-red earth, and acacia silhouettes against dusky skies, with bright, saturated colour in the animal characters. The look is clean, painted-feeling computer animation, with broad sweeping camera moves over the plains and cuts that linger on herds crossing open country. Sound leans on percussive, African-inspired songs, bright vocal numbers, and ambient bird and insect textures that make the landscape feel full and busy. The tone is gentle and upbeat, with a steady, easy rhythm built around short episodes of teamwork, small challenges, and quick comic beats. Tension stays mild: a few threats from scheming hyenas and some moments of peril, but no gore, no cruelty, and nothing frightening for young viewers. The emotional arc follows a young lion gathering a band of unlikely companions and learning to trust them, with warmth and gentle humour throughout. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family movie night, or a calm background watch with children, and it is made for people who want an easy, sunny, low-stakes adventure with an affectionate sense of community.
