The story

Timon the meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog are best pals and the unsung heroes of the African savanna. This prequel to the smash Disney animated adventure takes you back -- way back -- before Simba's adventure began. You'll find out all about Timon and Pumbaa and tag along as they search for the perfect home and attempt to raise a rambunctious lion cub.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated African savanna rendered in the flat, clean-edged hand-drawn style of Disney's direct-to-video sequels: sunlit grasslands, warm orange dust, and lush green palms with the crisp, cheerful color of a Saturday-morning cartoon. The camera stays simple and frontal, with bouncy, cut-heavy staging built for quick laughs rather than atmosphere. The music leans on bright, bouncy Elton John-style pop-musical numbers and goofy sound effects, so the sound is busy and upbeat rather than hushed. The vibe is light, silly and sunny, with a playful, slapstick energy and a warm, low-stakes calm underneath. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon with kids, a background watch while folding laundry, or a comfort rewatch when you want something easy and cheerful. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with running gags between the two buddies, and the emotional arc is simply two loyal, mismatched friends learning to care for a clumsy young lion cub. It's entirely gentle, with only mild cartoon bumps and no real violence, gore, or fear. Made for families with young children and for adults who enjoy goofy, good-natured animation.
