The story

Being a pro athlete didn't pan out for Colt. Now he's helping his dad and brother keep the ranch afloat, and figuring out how he fits into the family.

What it’s like

Warm multi-camera sitcom lighting does most of the work here: bright, even, studio-lit kitchens and barn interiors, with exterior shots of Colorado ranchland in flat late-afternoon sun, big sky and dry grass, a rural Western look rendered in a cheerful, broadcast-clean way rather than gritty. The sound is canned-laugh sitcom rhythm, quick banter over a country-tinged theme, with the jokes landing in tidy beats. Its vibe is easygoing and affectionate, a little rowdy, the kind of show that suits a lazy evening on the couch, a weekend catch-up, or something on in the background while folding laundry. Pacing is brisk and episodic, each half-hour resolving its small domestic knots before the next. Emotionally it stays light and forgiving, with the central figure, a washed-up former athlete, slowly reckoning with his father and brother and where he belongs at home, and the gruff, tender bond between the men gets more room than any big conflict. Intensity is low: mild profanity, bar fights and some crude adult humor, but no real violence, gore or dread. It's for viewers who want a funny, warm family comedy with a rural setting and gentle emotional payoffs.
