The story

Starting over isn't easy, especially for small-town guy John Nolan who, after a life-altering incident, is pursuing his dream of being an LAPD officer. As the force's oldest rookie, he's met with skepticism from some higher-ups who see him as just a walking midlife crisis.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-washed Los Angeles in broad daylight and warm street-level evenings, with the city's glare, palm-lined avenues, and squad-car lights flashing red and blue across storefronts. The camera is mostly conventional network-TV coverage: steady medium shots, two-shot dialogue scenes in precinct hallways and locker rooms, quick handheld moves when a chase breaks out. The score leans on upbeat guitar and brassy synth stingers, and the soundscape is full of sirens, radio chatter, and cheerful office chatter. The vibe is warm, buoyant, and gently comic, with a sincere undertow of second-chance hope. It suits a weeknight after dinner, a lazy weekend binge, or something easy to half-watch while folding laundry. Pacing is brisk, with a case-of-the-week rhythm, scenes that cut quickly between banter and action, and a steady stream of jokes. The emotional register stays light even when stakes rise. Its central figure is a middle-aged man learning to trust his new colleagues and himself, and the ensemble slowly becomes a found family. Violence is present but moderate: shootouts, car crashes, and brawls, with little gore and nothing lingering. Sexual content is mild and mostly implied, and the tone never turns cruel. It is for viewers who want warm, funny procedural comfort with heart.
