The story

After succumbing to her terminal illness, a teenager posthumously narrates her parents’ tenacious relationship.

What it’s like

Bright, warm domestic frames with saturated colour: sunlit family rooms, festive clothing, and the glow of a home full of people talking over one another. The camera stays close and conversational, and the narration keeps cutting back to a girl's wry, fast-talking voice, so the film often feels like a memory being told with a grin. Its music leans on lush, melodic Hindi-film songs that swell into tenderness. Its vibe is bittersweet and effervescent, a comedy of errors that gradually darkens into grief. Its people and their arcs move from exuberant, quarrelsome closeness toward a quieter, harder acceptance. The illness at its centre is a lifelong terminal condition, and the film deals with its effects on the body, hospital visits and the fear of loss, with death and bereavement in the later stretches, though there is no violence and only mild, non-graphic sensuality. It suits a good cry on a rainy Sunday or a comfort watch with tissues. It's for viewers who want romance and family drama with humour, and who can handle a sad ending.
