The story

When a downtrodden janitor, Winston Gooze, is exposed to a catastrophic toxic accident, he’s transformed into a new kind of hero: The Toxic Avenger. Now, Toxie must rise from outcast to savior, taking on ruthless corporate overlords and corrupt forces who threaten his son, his friends, and his community.

What it’s like

Bright, grubby, deliberately cheap-looking daylight across a fictional New Jersey town of dingy streets, chain-link fences, and sludge-green water, with saturated primary colors blooming against the grime. The camera is loose and kinetic, swinging through crowded school corridors and cramped apartments, while the comic-book staging and crude practical effects keep the mood raucous and self-aware. The soundtrack leans on jangly garage-rock and punchy pop cues, with the occasional sudden hush for a tender beat. The vibe is scruffy, goofy, and sincere, a wiry punk-comedy with a soft heart, best suited to a loud Friday night with friends or a rowdy late-evening watch. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with slapstick set pieces and gallows jokes landing hard. Emotionally it is warm underneath the chaos: a bullied, overlooked father learning to stand up for his son and his neighbors. Violence is frequent and gleefully gory, with splattering bodies, mutilation, drug and alcohol use, profanity, and crude sexual humor; it is not gentle. Built for fans of outsider superhero comedy and grindhouse-style excess who enjoy their absurdity with a bit of civic anger.
