The story

A New Day is the first episode of the first season of a five-part series based on the AMC TV series and the original The Walking Dead comic book series. The game is set in the United States at the start of a zombie outbreak. It takes place in the original universe but does not rely on characters or locations from the comic book or the TV series.

What it’s like

Muted, desaturated palettes give way to sickly greens and bruised oranges in a comic-book cel-shaded style, with heavy ink outlines and panels that flash and cut like a graphic novel. The sound is a sparse, tense score of low strings and piano stabs that drops away to near silence during quiet conversations, while the crack of gunshots and the wet shuffle of the undead land hard. Interaction is point-and-click, and the hands-on rhythm is slow exploration punctuated by fast, timed dialogue choices that make every reply feel heavy. The vibe is grim, emotionally raw, and tense, a story of grief and fragile loyalty set against a collapsing small town. Its intensity is moderate to high: frequent zombie attacks and violent deaths, some gore rendered in comic-style splatter, plus disturbing scenes of child peril and a heavy sense of dread, though the violence is stylised rather than realistic. It suits players who want a character-driven drama with real consequences and can handle grim, adult material, and it is not a fit for anyone seeking something gentle or light.
