The story

Menacing in appearance but gentle at heart, second year high school student Ryuuji forms an unlikely friendship with classmate Taiga, a tiny girl with a sharp tongue and a tough attitude.

What it’s like

Warm, bright, and bittersweet by turns, with the school days rendered in clean, sun-washed colour: pale blue skies over the campus, soft afternoon light slanting through classroom windows, and rain that makes the streets glossy at dusk. The animation is crisp and expressive, with cartoonish exaggeration in the comic beats (sudden chibi faces, exaggerated flustered reactions) giving way to quieter, carefully held shots of characters alone on rooftops, at train platforms, or walking home in the evening hush. Music leans on light piano and gentle strings that swell at emotional turns, with the bright opening-and-ending pop songs bookending each episode. The vibe is cheerful and tender with a sharp undercurrent of awkward longing, the kind of slice-of-life romcom that suits a weekend afternoon or a comfort rewatch. Pacing is brisk and comedic at first, slowing as the friendships deepen; the central arc follows two lonely teenagers who push and pull at each other while slowly learning to be honest about what they feel. Intensity is low: some shouting, a few tense confrontations, and occasional bullying-adjacent friction, but no violence, gore, or sexual content. It is for viewers who want heartfelt school drama with humour and sincere romantic tension.
