The story

Stuntman Cha Dal-geon gets involved in a tragic airplane crash and ends up discovering a national corruption scandal in the process. Go Hae-ri, the oldest daughter of a deceased marine, decides to work for the National Intelligence Service as a secret ops agent in order to support her mom and younger siblings, although all she wanted to do is to become a civil servant.

What it’s like

Sleek, high-gloss night city with saturated neon reflecting off wet asphalt, and daylight scenes shot in crisp, cool-toned clarity. Vagabond is a Korean action thriller with a restless, kinetic feel: handheld camera chasing through crowded markets, rooftops and parking garages, and long, precisely choreographed fight sequences that let the bodies and the geography breathe. Between the set pieces the mood turns quieter, with interiors lit by hard fluorescents and the low hum of surveillance rooms, and the score moves from orchestral swells to synth pulse and sudden silence. Its vibe is tense, glossy and wry, a mix of pulpy escapism and sincere grief, best suited to a weekend binge or a late evening when you want to be carried along. Violence is frequent and physical, with brawls, shootings, plane-crash chaos and some bloody injuries, though it is more action-movie than gory. Emotionally it stays close to a wounded, stubborn hero and a young woman forced into a dangerous job to protect her family, with humour and warmth threaded through the danger. It suits viewers who want big spectacle, a slow-burning conspiracy and a romance that grows out of shared hardship rather than pure sweetness.
