The story
When a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.
What it’s like
Gritty, snow-blasted night exteriors and warm, saturated interiors give this one its look: a sprawling mansion lit like a Christmas card, with fairy lights, roaring fireplaces and blood-bright reds set against a grey, frozen estate. The camera is fast and kinetic, with whip pans and punchy handheld moves during the fights, and the score leans on jingling sleigh bells and bombastic rock cues that undercut the carnage. Tone is loud, cheeky and gleefully over the top, a holiday romp with a bruised, grubby edge. Violence is frequent, bloody and often gruesome, with bone-crunching brawls, gunfire and creative booby-trap kills, though the gore is played for black comedy rather than dread. Language is coarse and there is some crude humour. Pacing never really lets up, and the emotional arc is a jaded, hard-drinking Santa slowly remembering what the season means to a kid stuck in the middle of the chaos. Best for people who want a rowdy, irreverent, action-packed Christmas night with a mean streak, not a gentle seasonal comfort watch.
