The story
A young woman's hilariously confessional voicemails to her late sister are unknowingly redirected to a stranger, who begins to fall in love from afar.
What it’s like
Warm, talky and light on its feet, with the city of San Francisco as a backdrop of hills and sunlit streets. The sound does much of the work: voicemail messages spoken straight to camera or into a phone, confessional and funny, followed by the quieter reply of a stranger listening from across town. Expect bright, easy comedy that gives grief room without letting it weigh the whole film down, and a romance that builds through overheard words rather than grand gestures. The emotional register is adoring and compassionate, with few sharp edges, and nothing in its tone suggests menace, cruelty or graphic material. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a rainy evening on the sofa, or a gentle comfort watch. It is for viewers who want a romcom with a tender heart, where the sadness is real but the mood stays generous and hopeful, and where the central pleasure is listening to two people slowly come to know each other.
