The story

After accidentally discovering spin technology, Wario reassembles the developers at WarioWare, Inc. to make a new set of wild minigames. WarioWare: Twisted! maintains the fast-paced style of gameplay from the original WarioWare and introduces a new gyro sensor that lets you control the gameplay by rotating the Game Boy Advance SP left and right. The new controls play into more than 200 minigames. Play through them all to unlock souvenirs, such as bonus games, figurines, and instruments.

What it’s like

Bright, cartoonish and deliberately busy, with flat saturated colours, bold outlines and chunky sprite animation that looks like a jumble of comic panels set to a bouncing chiptune soundtrack. The game is a rapid-fire string of microgames lasting only seconds each, so the rhythm is jittery and relentless, with a constant hum of little jingles, buzzes and exclamations. Its signature trick is the tilt-sensor cartridge: you physically twist the Game Boy Advance SP left and right, which makes the handheld feel like a toy in your hands and gives every screen a tactile, slightly silly bodily rhythm. Vibe: giddy, scrappy, cheerfully chaotic. It suits a short commute, a bored afternoon, or a few playful minutes on the couch with someone watching over your shoulder. Intensity is low: cartoon peril, mild slapstick and goofy comeuppance, with no gore or real violence and nothing frightening. It is for people who want quick, funny, hands-on play with a light, mischievous edge and no need to commit to a long story.
