The story

A small West Virginia town is hosting the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where throngs of costumed party goers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals kill the fun when they trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students.

What it’s like

Dusk-blue woods and the sickly orange glow of festival lights and jack-o'-lantern carnival rigs set the look, with night forest and crowded costumed streets cutting between each other. The palette leans on jewel-bright party colours against deep green and black, and the framing favours roving handheld moves through undergrowth and cramped rural interiors. The sound is brash: festival music and crowd noise giving way to heavy silence, the crack of branches, and sudden, loud bursts of violence. The vibe is loud, grimy and mischievous, a sequel-of-a-franchise slasher that plays Halloween spectacle against backwoods dread. It suits a rowdy Friday night with friends, a Halloween-season rewatch, or a late session of horror-genre fun. The pacing is brisk and escalates quickly, with the college visitors and the local police officer pulled through a run of set pieces rather than slow character work. Intensity is high: graphic gore, cannibalism, brutal and frequent violence, and cruelty that lands bluntly and without much restraint. This is not gentle viewing. It is made for fans of practical-effects splatter, backwoods hillbilly horror, and seasonal slasher mayhem who want their scares loud and messy.
